Weatherize to reduce heating and cooling costs

Monday, October 09, 2017

Low-income families spend a disproportionate amount of their incomes on energy bills. For more than 40 years, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program has helped millions of low-income households improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

October 30 is National Weatherization Day, a great excuse to sign up for a home energy audit.  An audit can help identify areas of inefficiency in your home. Solutions don’t have to be expensive. Caulking and adding weather stripping around doors and windows is a simple, cheap and effective strategy to prevent air leaks, for instance. Adding insulation to a home can reduce heating and cooling costs too.

Such improvements result in real savings for families. Households save on average $283 every year. Contact GROW South Dakota to find out if you’re eligible for energy-efficiency upgrades through our weatherization program. http://growsd.org/growsd/contact-us
