GROW South Dakota Makes Home Ownership Possible
Wednesday, June 04, 2014
Myron Doud and Stephanie Richards began working with GROW South Dakota over three years ago, when they first sought advice on home ownership. At that time, the family of eight had been living with his parents in a four bedroom house.
Myron and Stephanie entered into the Dakota Dream Savings Fund, (DDSF) program where they set up financial goals and received coaching from GROW South Dakota staff. They were able to complete the financial and homebuyer education courses in addition to learning how to complete and follow a budget. These tools were essential in completing their goal of home ownership. The couple was able to save $4,000, which allowed them to obtain an additional $12,000 through the DDSF to use for down payment. They found a home with the necessary bedrooms and amenities in order to live comfortably.
One of the couple’s daughters was very excited about her new bedroom; she wasn’t even scared to sleep in a room all by herself! The kids have room to have sleep-overs with their friends and a nice backyard to play in.
Myron and Stephanie were able to combine a number of resources from GROW South Dakota, Rural Development, Homes Are Possible, Inc. and NAHI, to make their dream of homeownership a reality.
