EXPERIENCING LIFE IN POVERTY
More than 110,000 South Dakotans are living at or below federal poverty level, according to the 2010 census. “This is the everyday reality of thousands of South Dakotans. Understanding that reality will help us change it,” said Marcia Erickson, NESDCAP Chief Executive Officer.
Fifty people recently experienced the virtual realities of poverty in a Poverty Simulation conducted by Department of Social Services and NESDCAP. Ann Pollert from the North Dakota Community Action Partnership facilitated the event that moved the participants in a very real way to experience the feelings and realities of living in poverty.
