GROW South Dakota Pays-It-Forward to the Hyde County Food Pantry
Tuesday, March 22, 2016
GROW South Dakota is celebrating a half century serving South Dakota. To mark our 50th anniversary, each staff member and NESDCAP board member has been given $50 to donate to a community organization. Throughout the year there will be fifty recipients throughout the GROW South Dakota’s service area.
Recently, Vikki Day, a board member, made a donation to the Hyde County Food Pantry. The pantry is run by volunteers and is available to residences of Hyde County. “Volunteers give of their time to shop for groceries, stock the shelves, and serve people who use the food pantry,” said Day. “The volunteers at the food pantry also deliver backpacks weekly, stuffed with wholesome snacks and juice, to the local school for children to take home over the weekends.” Behind the Food Pantry is a partnering thrift store. All proceeds from the store go toward supporting the food pantry.
“We value our staff and board members and the passion they have for the communities we serve. This pay-it-forward event is a small token of our appreciation toward all of the local organizations that make communities better places to live and work,” said GROW South Dakota CEO Marcia Erickson.
Collections bins for non-perishable food are located in Mashek’s. Donations for the Food Pantry can be mailed to P.O. Box 3870, Highmore, SD 57345. For more information about GROW South Dakota housing, community and business development programs visit www.growsd.org or call (605) 698-7654.
