Strengthening communities through concerted action
Monday, May 23, 2016
May is Community Action Month, a month to highlight the great work going on around the U.S. to strengthen communities. The week is spurred by Community Action Partnership; a national group that works with a network of member agencies to assure issues of poverty are effectively addressed.
President Lyndon B. Johnson’s 1964 proclamation of a “War on Poverty” gave rise to Community Action. The idea is to promote self-sufficiency. GROW South Dakota is a proud to be one of Community Action Partnership’s 1,000 members around the country working to empower families and transform communities.
Community Action Agencies work to create jobs, improve community relations, and enhance local quality of life. This month, we celebrate these successes and find inspiration for future project. Learn more! http://ow.ly/V1RkO
