GROW South Dakota Pays-It-Forward to Britton Lions Club
Wednesday, December 14, 2016
Successful communities are made up of many people and organizations who contribute to the overall good of their hometown. Service clubs are the backbone of many rural communities, and the Britton Lions Club is one of the reasons Britton was recognized as South Dakota’s Community of the Year. The Lions Club is involved in many volunteer and charitable activities to support the quality of life, in Britton and for that reason it is a recipient of a $50 donation from GROW South Dakota’s Pay-It-Forward initiative.
GROW South Dakota has been helping communities for fifty years, and to celebrate that milestone, each staff member and board member has received $50 to donate to a community organization. Tom Farber, a board member for both GROW South Dakota and NESDCAP, chose to support the Lions Club, of which he is a member.
Lions Club International is celebrating 100 years as an organization in 2017 and is encouraging clubs to complete a community legacy project during the Centennial Celebration. So among its many activities, the Britton Lions Club has spearheaded the construction of their community legacy project – the building of the “Lions Pavilion” picnic shelter by the community swimming pool. The Lions Pavilion is scheduled for completion by early spring 2017.
“We value our board members and staff and the passion they have for the communities we serve. This Pay-It-Forward event is a small token of our appreciation toward all of the local organizations that make communities better places to live and work,” said GROW South Dakota CEO Marcia Erickson.
