GROW South Dakota Pays-It-Forward to the Aberdeen Area Humane Society

Most think of community development as being about building the strengths and creating opportunities for the people of a community. While that’s usually the case, sometimes quality of life is improved when non-humans are taken care of, especially pets that can make life better for their humans. The Aberdeen Area Humane Society takes on the task of caring and finding homes for pets who are left with them. It’s an important service for any community, and the Society is a recipient of a $50 donation from GROW South Dakota’s Pay-It-Forward initiative.
GROW South Dakota has been helping communities for fifty years, and to celebrate that milestone, each staff member and board member has received $50 to donate to a community organization. Sheila Oreskovich, a GROW South Dakota administrative assistant, made the donation to the Humane Society. In the process of delivering the donation, she also adopted her newest pet! Emmy, a 4-year old Border Collie mix, came home with Sheila.
“We value our board members and staff and the passion they have for the communities we serve. This Pay-It-Forward event is a small token of our appreciation toward all of the local organizations that make communities better places to live and work,” said GROW South Dakota CEO Marcia Erickson.
