Edwin Obara, Owner; Sioux Falls, South Dakota
In April of 2015, after years of saving his own money, Edwin opened Bariki International Market in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Edwin saw a need for residents to have access to African foods, beauty supplies, music and movies without leaving the country.
After opening the store and experiencing initial success, Edwin found himself without sufficient capital to purchase additional inventory. Not being able to qualify for traditional business financing, Edwin was puzzled. So he turned to the internet to search or another lending option. Through the Small Business Administration LINC referral system, Edwin was connected with GROW South Dakota, a non-profit lender serving the entire state of South Dakota. With the business financing GROW South Dakota provided, Edwin was able to purchase additional inventory and continue to serve his customers.
GROW South Dakota is a non-profit small business lender that serves both new and growing businesses throughout South Dakota. Visit www.growsd.org or (605) 698-7654 for more information.
