GROW SD Pays-It-Forward and Gives Back for NeighborWorks Week

Thursday, May 26, 2016

Across the country, residents and volunteers are doing a variety of projects as part of a weeklong celebration of neighborhood revitalization activities nationally recognized as NeighborWorks Week (June 4-12). For GROW South Dakota, NeighborWorks Week represents a chance to continue its year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary of supporting community and economic development in South Dakota.

One way GROW SD is recognizing this milestone has been to invite board members and staff to Pay-It-Forward by giving back to organizations that share its mission of building communities. The organization has provided $50 to each board and staff member to make such donations in gratitude for community support for GROW SD and to help make a difference in the work other groups do. Altogether, the GROW SD family will contribute over $3,000 to youth groups, schools, recreational activities, shelters, and other vital community organizations.

GROW SD obtained part of the funding for Pay-It-Forward through a grant to extend the program from NeighborWorks America, the organization that sponsors NeighborWorks Week.

To date, the following organizations have received donations: Sisseton Youth Baseball Association, Doland Housing, Langford Summer Recreation, Future Business Leaders of America, Redfield Family Crisis Center, the Aberdeen Public Library, the Boys & Girls Club, the Britton Youth Wrestling Club, Roberts County 4-H Community Center Building, Sisseton Community Transit, Hyde County Food Pantry, Sisseton Tribal Elderly Program, Pheasants Forever Youth Hunt, Roncalli Junior Achievement Days, the Aberdeen Area Humane Society, the Webster Diamond Club, and the Eureka Thrift Store.

GROW South Dakota is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of more than 240 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In 2015, the NeighborWorks network helped nearly 356,000 individuals and families with affordable housing and counseling. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
