Langford Summer Rec Program Receives Pay-It-Forward Donation

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Community development is fundamentally about building the strengths and resources of a community, and it can occur in a variety of ways. One of the key resources of any community is its youth, and building up youth is a key community development strategy. The Langford Summer Recreation Program is a program that does just that by offering recreational opportunities to develop fitness as well as team-building, competition, and cooperation skills. It is a recipient of a $50 donation from GROW South Dakota’s Pay-It-Forward initiative.

GROW South Dakota has been helping communities for fifty years, and to celebrate that milestone, each staff member and board member has received $50 to donate to a community organization. Kayla Suther, a GROW South Dakota board advisor, made the donation to the Langford program. As Kayla describes it, “The $50 Pay It Forward donation will be used to support the Langford Summer Rec program as they purchase protective catcher gear and batting helmets in sizes that will better fit and protect the youth participating in the program.”

“We value our board members and staff and the passion they have for the communities we serve. This Pay-It-Forward event is a small token of our appreciation toward all of the local organizations that make communities better places to live and work,” said GROW South Dakota CEO Marcia Erickson.
