GROW South Dakota Pays-It-Forward to the Sisseton Tribal Elderly Program
Monday, June 06, 2016
Communities that are moving forward don’t forget where they’ve been or who got them there. While some might overlook their elderly citizens, the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Elderly Program makes sure that the generations who built their community remain part of it. The program is a recipient of a $50 donation from GROW South Dakota’s Pay-It-Forward initiative.
GROW South Dakota has been helping communities for fifty years, and to celebrate that milestone, each staff member and board member has received $50 to donate to a community organization. Sherri Skjonsberg, GROW South Dakota project coordinator, chose to support the Tribal Elderly Program because it’s a place where the elderly can “hang out” and participate in activities. The program also provides such services as adult protection, congregate meals and home delivered meals, personal care, transportation, and volunteer services.
“We value our board members and staff and the passion they have for the communities we serve. This Pay-It-Forward event is a small token of our appreciation toward all of the local organizations that make communities better places to live and work,” said GROW South Dakota CEO Marcia Erickson.
