GROW South Dakota Pays-It-Forward to Roncalli Junior Achievement
Wednesday, June 22, 2016
Youth are the future of any community; that’s a given. But the future won’t be bright if attention isn’t paid to youth today. By bringing business volunteers into the classroom, Junior Achievement of South Dakota helps young people connect with relevant learning and the importance of staying in school. Students learn to own their economic success. The Roncalli fifth grade class program is a recipient of a $50 donation from GROW South Dakota’s Pay-It-Forward initiative.
GROW South Dakota has been helping communities for fifty years, and to celebrate that milestone, each staff member and board member has received $50 to donate to a community organization. Carla Burns, a Small Business Development Center consultant and Affordable Care Act Marketplace Navigator for GROW South Dakota, chose to support the Junior Achievement program at Roncalli Elementary School in Aberdeen, where she volunteered. Her donation will help the fifth graders purchase a globe for their classroom.
"We value our board members and staff and the passion they have for the communities we serve. This Pay-It-Forward event is a small token of our appreciation toward all of the local organizations that make communities better places to live and work,” said GROW South Dakota CEO Marcia Erickson.
