Mural to be Painted on GROW SD Office Building

A new mural will soon be painted on the south side of the GROW South Dakota office building in Sisseton. GROW South Dakota received a grant from Rural LISC to commission community art projects in Sisseton – some of which are already completed. The flower planters lining the main street as well as a cross walk that was painted, and soon a mural.

Alexis Monroe & Nicholas Blaske produced three designs reflecting the beauty of the Sisseton community and the diversity it represents. Three of the designs were put to a public vote on Facebook. The winning design, will depict a South Dakota skyline, a silhouette of the Sisseton Courthouse, a bald eagle, and beautiful sunset inset in the letters spelling, “Sisseton.” Work on the mural has begun.

For more than half a century, the three nonprofit organizations comprising GROW South Dakota have fulfilled a vision of “GROWing sustainable communities through housing, community and economic development.” In 1966 the Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program (NESDCAP) was established as a Community Action Agency in the War on Poverty and has served thousands in 17 counties with emergency services as well as various housing programs.
