Celebrating women in business

The proliferation of women in the business world is a recent phenomenon. An American Express OPEN report indicates the number of women-owned businesses increased by 45 percent between 2007 and 2016.

President Reagan signed H.R. 5050, the Women's Business Ownership Act, in 1988. This law has been instrumental in reducing barriers for female entrepreneurs. October is a month to reflect on the status of women in business, celebrate their advancements and commemorate the landmark legislation that helped usher in this wave of progress.

We join the National Women’s Business Council in celebrating the advancements of women-owned businesses this month. Find out more:

A Half-Century of Serving South Dakotans

In 1978, NESDCAP created the Northeast South Dakota Economic Corporation (NESDEC) as a revolving loan fund to focus on small business lending and job creation in 22 counties. In 2007, Grow South Dakota, was formed to provide housing, community and economic development statewide. Through services to individuals, technical assistance to community and economic development agencies, and loans to small businesses and homebuyers, GROW South Dakota has had broad and lasting impact.
