Recognizing Home Ownership in June

June is National Homeownership Month. National Homeownership Month is a time to reflect on the positive impact that owning a home has on both individuals and communities.

Homeownership allows individuals and families to build wealth and secure a stable financial future. A 2017 Federal Reserve report placed the median net worth of a homeowner at 44 times that of a renter.

GROW South Dakota has long served as a valuable resource for homebuyers. We offer homebuyer education and individualized counseling, as well as direct mortgage lending and down payment assistance. Our experienced staff helps walk individuals through the home buying process.

homeownership Through our homeownership program, GROW South Dakota was able to assist a disabled 64-year-old woman with the purchase of her first home. In addition to helping secure financing, she was able to complete our homeownership education course.

Homeownership education helps each customer gain the knowledge and confidence needed to purchase a home; it teaches sustainability, ensuring that all individuals are able to maintain and stay in their homes.

“I appreciate GROW South Dakota. They helped me a bunch,” she says. “They helped me put everything in place so that I could buy a home.”

A Half-Century of Serving South Dakotans

For more than half a century, the three nonprofit organizations comprising GROW South Dakota have fulfilled a vision of “GROWing sustainable communities through housing, community and economic development.” In 1966 the Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program (NESDCAP) was established as a Community Action Agency in the War on Poverty and has served thousands in 17 counties with emergency services as well as various housing programs.
