Dan Duenwald knows transportation. He had been in the business twenty seven years when he decided to take a risk and start his own business. In 2012, Duenwald Transportation, LLC submitted, and won, the bid for the Clark School District school bus contract. It was then that Dan established Duenwald Transportation, LLC.
The business consists of multiple lines of business including; school bus routes, party buses, luxury coach buses, isowean pig hauling, servicing many area school buses and school bus driver in-service training. In 2014 the business was growing leaps and bounds. New busses were being added to the fleet and they could not rent enough storage to accommodate and maintain all of the vehicles. GROW South Dakota, in partnership with the local bank, financed a new shop for Duenwald Transportation in Clark. The shop has ample space to service all of the buses and includes a commercial truck wash to keep the vehicles clean.
Four of Dan’s Family, Chad, Kevin, Melody and son-in-law Chris Bokinskie joined him in creating the business. Each one runs a separate line of business. Melody manages the school bus schedule, drives a school bus route and does the day-to-day office work. Chad is in charge of pig hauling to Iowa and Minnesota and is the shop foreman. Kevin who owns a sister company, Sheyenne Transport where he runs the school bus routes in Webster, helps oversee the business and helps out in all aspects of the business. Chris runs a school bus route and is in charge of the commercial truck wash. Dan says he is the head cook/custodian where he keeps the shop very clean and everyone fed very well. It is truly a family business. Today, Duenwald Transportation runs a 21 driver transportation business in Clark South Dakota.
