GROW SD Homeowner

GROW South Dakota, has been serving South Dakotans since 1966. NESDCAP’s mission is: “Serving people’s housing, business, and community needs through opportunities and development.”

In recognition of Homeownership Month, let’s take a closer look at GROW South Dakota’s housing programs and how they help individuals and families achieve the dream of homeownership.

Buying a home does more than provide a place to live — it is an investment in your future. Building equity can create financial opportunities later in life, whether that means transitioning into a larger home, making renovations, or helping cover living expenses during retirement. Homeownership also provides stability and the freedom to make decisions about your home’s interior and exterior design to truly make it your own.

However, the homebuying process can often feel stressful, complicated, and out of reach for the average South Dakotan. That’s where GROW South Dakota comes in. Our no-cost Homebuyer Education Course is available both online and in person. The online course is self-paced and easily accessible, covering everything a prospective homeowner needs to know and more. For those who prefer a more personalized experience, the in-person course offers the same comprehensive information while allowing instructors to tailor the material to each individual’s needs — whether that means spending extra time on challenging topics or providing a higher-level overview for more experienced participants.

For many homebuyers, affordability and saving for a down payment are the biggest obstacles to purchasing a home. Fortunately, GROW South Dakota offers a Down Payment Assistance Program (DPA) for eligible applicants, as well as a home mortgage loan program.  Visit our website to learn more about these great programs.

The support doesn’t stop once you purchase your home. GROW South Dakota’s HUD-certified counselors are available to help you adjust your budget, create savings plans for future renovations, and navigate important financial decisions as a homeowner.
