Journey toward Home Ownership

While beginning her journey towards home ownership, Amber Peters was first introduced to GROW South Dakota’s housing loan programs, through her first mortgage lender.  “We did not know about the down payment assistance programs that GROW South Dakota had to offer, until our mortgage loan officer told us.  She was able to initiate the process, in order for us to receive down payment assistance”, said Amber. 

Prior to purchasing her home, Amber had worked for several years to get her credit score where it needed to be, in order to secure financing for a home loan.  “Money was very, very tight,” said Amber.  “We were working to improve our credit, but with that being said, we did not have much in savings for a down payment.  Without GROW South Dakota, I don’t think we would have been able to proceed.”

Upon securing the financing for her home, and having received the down payment assistance from GROW South Dakota, Amber had this to say about her current living situation, “Our life has greatly improved.  Before, our family of six was living in a small, three-bedroom apartment.  My three boys were all sharing a bedroom, and most of the time my youngest son was sleeping on the floor. With the help of GROW South Dakota, we now own a five-bedroom house.  All four of my kids have their own bedroom.  They have their own space, and life is much calmer now.  We love decorating our home, and adding our own personal touches.  For the first time ever, we are able to have pets.  We have adopted a few kittens, which our kids are absolutely in love with!”
