1st Impression Tours in Five Rural Communities

GROW South Dakota recently received funding from NeighborWorks America to support their Community, Building and Engagement efforts through the Grow Housing Initiative, which is a technical assistance track to lunge rural communities forward in the community housing dialogue to the point of actively solving housing issues. GROW South Dakota’s expertise is engaging residents and organizations from Webster, Ft. Pierre, Britton, Sisseton, and Campbell County to build upon their capacity and enter into the planning stages of creating sustainable housing. These Grow Housing communities recently embarked on an innovative peer-to-peer sharing concept called the 1st Impressions Tour, which allows peers with an outside viewpoint to help identify strengths and weaknesses in the community's housing stock.
The peer group began the 1st Impressions Tour in the rural communities of Webster and Sisseton on October 1, 2015. Future tours for Ft.Pierre, Britton and Campbell County are being scheduled. The results of this initiative will provide a written summary as well as allowing the peer group to share ideas, concepts, aspirations and challenges each one faces in their communities. This sharing will build capacity and trusted professional relationships.
The Grow Housing Initiative is funded by the Bush Foundation Community Innovation Grant.
